How We Tested It
The Yeti Boomer Dog Bowls are undeniably stylish, but I needed to confirm their durability and ease of cleaning to figure out if they are really an essential puppy product. Specifically, I wanted to know if they retained ice and kept water cold like the Yeti Rambler line, given their shared kitchen-grade stainless steel composition.
Although the Boomer Dog Bowls lack insulation like the brand’s beloved tumblers, I had high hopes for their performance. To test them, I compared their temperature retention with a standard ceramic bowl of the same size using water, ice water and dog food.
After leaving both bowls filled with water throughout the day, I discovered that the Boomer Bowl kept water colder for a bit longer. Ice testing revealed that while it didn’t match the longevity of Yeti’s insulated cups, it outperformed a regular bowl in preserving ice.
I also used the Yeti dog bowl to feed my pup raw meat cuts. And I did feel like the meat was better contained and held together by the thick stainless steel construction. Cleanup was easier, too: A simple wipe and dishwasher cycle left the bowl looking and feeling spotless.
Additionally, the Boomer Dog Bowls stayed in place even without a silicone mat, making them ideal for my energetic German Shepherd, Henry. He also seemed to enjoy drinking water from the Yeti bowl, possibly due to the taste of the cool water out of a big metal bowl. Or, maybe he just likes the look of the bowls as much as I do.
