On July 18, 2024, Bissell issued a recall of certain steam cleaners due to the injury hazard they pose. Roughly 3.2 million devices in the United States are included in this product recall. Read on to find out if your Bissell steam cleaner has been recalled and what to do if it has.

Which Bissell Steam Cleaners Are Recalled?

According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall includes “multiple models of the BISSELL Steam Shot Handheld Steam Cleaners in the model series 39N7 and 2994.” These highly popular products use steam to clean hard surfaces throughout your home, including grout, kitchen appliances, bathroom surfaces, and more.

To see if yours is one of these models, look for the words “Steam Shot” or “Power Steamer” on the label on the side of the steam cleaner. Various colors of the product are being recalled, including green, pink, blue, orange, white, black, purple and red.

Why Are the Bissell Steam Cleaners Being Recalled?

These steam cleaners pose a burn hazard to users. They may shoot out hot water and steam while heating up and being in use. So far there have been reports of 183 instances of the devices malfunctioning and 157 injuries so far.

How Do I Check for Recalls on My Appliances?

To see if your appliances are on the Bissell steam cleaner recall list, go to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission. Once there, you should check the parts numbers against your own device. If the numbers match, then you’ll need to stop using the product and register for compensation.

What Should I Do If I Have a Recalled Bissell Steam Cleaner?

If you own one of the models included in this Bissell steam cleaner recall, you should go to www.BISSELL.com/steamshotrecall and register for a refund for your steam cleaner.

To be eligible for compensation, you must cut the device’s cord and take a photo. You will receive either $60 credit toward a new Bissell purchase or $40 refund for the malfunctioning device.
